Mason 4 - 1 Oak Hills
May 17, 2018 - 5:00 pm
at Kings High School
Senior Will Pfennig was, once again, dominant today as Mason defeated Oak Hills for the third time this season – this time in a district semi-final game by a final score of 4-1 at Kings High School. Pfennig moved to 8-0 on the season as he pitched a complete game 1-hitter along with eleven strikeouts. He struck out the side to end the game in the top of the seventh, recording his 100th strikeout of the season. The Highlanders scored just one unearned run on the day following an infield error to lead off the inning.
In a game light on offense as the result of great pitching by both clubs, Mason jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their half of the first. A one out single by Nick Northcut was followed by back-to-back walks to J.P. Sponseller and Evan Haas to load the bases. Cole Harting ripped an RBI single through the left side of the infield and Mason Holloway followed with a ground ball to the left side of the infield (a fielder’s choice) that plated the second Comet run. A bases loaded walk to Holloway in the third and an RBI double from Northcut in the fourth accounted for Mason’s other runs.
Mason will take their GMC title and 23-5 overall record in to a District Championship game on Saturday, May 19th at 4:30 PM at Princeton High School. The Comets will face the winner of the Troy/Northmont game which was postponed due to rain today.
