Following their celebration of the 2016 GMC Co-Championship last night, the Comets were right back in action this afternoon – hosting the 2016 GCL Champion LaSalle Lancers. And, in one of the more thrilling games of the season, Mason battled back from a one run deficit in the seventh inning to knock off LaSalle 5-4. Senior Sam Taylor, a clutch performer all season for the Comets, struck again with a walk-off 2 RBI single with two outs in the 7th. And, the Mason dugout emptied to greet Taylor at first base!
Joey Bowlin got the start for Mason today, and pitched 5.2 strong innings – allowing just two earned runs on seven hits with seven walks and seven strike outs. Bowlin left with Mason trailing 3-2 in the sixth with two outs and the bases loaded. Will MacLean came on in relief to get a huge strike out to end the La Salle sixth. He stayed on to pitch the seventh, allowing an unearned run on one hit and a HBP. MacLean (1-0) picked up his first win as a Mason Comet.
The game was scoreless through four innings, and was back and forth the whole day with Mason leading 2-1 after five, LaSalle tying the game 3-3 after six, and LaSalle taking a 4-3 lead in the seventh before the Comets broke through in their last at-bat. Leaders on offense for Mason included:
