After Mason jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, it was all St. Xavier after that as the Bombers scored five runs in their half of the third and tacked on three more in the fourth on their way to winning a sectional title by a final score of 11-2. Mason ends the season with an overall record of 19-9 (12-6 in the GMC).
Jace Robinson put the Comets on the board in the second inning with a solo shot over the left field fence, his third home run on the season. An RBI single from Nick Northcut in the third put the Comets up 2-0. St. Xavier had a lot of success at the plate today against a trio of Mason’s top pitchers. Will Pfennig (6-2) worked the first three innings and took the loss for the Comets. He was followed by Nick Northcut (two thirds of an inning) and Joey Bowlin (two and 1/3 innings). In total, Mason allowed ten earned runs on eleven hits and eight walks while striking out two.
The Comets wish to thank the Mason community for their support of the team this season as well as our eleven graduating seniors for their commitment over the last four years.
